Shrink tunnels
Shrink tunnels, also known as heat shrink tunnels or shrink tunnels, are used to apply controlled heat to shrink-wrapped plastic packaging. These packages, when exposed to heat, contract, adhering to the packaged product and providing a firmer and safer package. Shrink tunnels are commonly used in packaging lines for various products, from food to industrial products.

How it works:

The basic operation of a heat shrink tunnel involves the following steps:

Packaging Loading: Packaged products are placed in heat-shrinkable plastic bags or wraps.

Conveyor Transport: The package is transported by a conveyor belt through the shrink tunnel.

Exposure to Heat: During transportation on the conveyor belt, the packaging is exposed to a controlled heat source inside the tunnel.

Packaging Shrinkage: Heat causes the heat-shrinkable packaging to shrink and adjust to the contour of the product, providing a firm and tight packaging.

Cooling: After shrinking, some tunnel configurations may include a cooling phase to solidify the shrunken package.

Unloading the Packaged Product: The packaged products are unloaded from the conveyor belt after passing through the shrink tunnel.

Types of Shrink Tunnels:

Conveyor Belt Heat Tunnels: Products are transported through the tunnel on a conveyor belt. This is the most common type of shrink tunnel.

Hot Air Layer Heat Tunnels: Use a layer of hot air to shrink packages. This method may be more efficient in some cases.

Steam Tunnels: Some tunnels use steam to heat the packages, providing uniform shrinkage.

Infrared Tunnels: Use infrared radiation to heat packaging, providing fast and efficient shrinkage.

Hot Water Tunnels: They use hot water to heat packaging, being effective in certain applications.

Induction Tunnels: They use the principle of electromagnetic induction to generate heat in packages, providing controlled shrinkage.

The choice of the type of shrink tunnel will depend on the type of packaging, the packaged product, production requirements and specific process characteristics. These tunnels are widely used in industries that seek efficient, aesthetic and safe packaging for their products.
