Laboratory vacuum hoods
A vacuum oven, also known as a vacuum oven, is equipment used in laboratories and industrial applications for drying, degassing, dehydrating, preserving and processing materials under vacuum conditions. It differs from a conventional stove as it operates in a reduced pressure environment. Here is what a vacuum oven is for and how it works:

What is a vacuum oven for:

Drying Heat Sensitive Materials: A vacuum oven is often used to dry materials that are heat sensitive, as the reduced pressure allows moisture to evaporate at lower temperatures than in a conventional oven.

Dehydration and Concentration of Solutions: It can be used to dehydrate liquid solutions, such as concentration of extracts or solutions, by removing the solvent under reduced pressure.

Preservation of Sensitive Products: Products sensitive to oxidation or degradation, such as food and pharmaceuticals, can be preserved in a vacuum oven as the reduced pressure helps prevent oxidation and degradation of compounds.

Degassing: The vacuum oven is used to remove gases and bubbles from liquid or solid materials, improving the quality and stability of products.

Processing of Oxygen-Sensitive Materials: Oxygen-sensitive materials, such as some metals, can be processed or coated in a vacuum oven to prevent reaction with atmospheric oxygen.

How a vacuum oven works:

Vacuum Creation: The process begins with creating a vacuum in the oven chamber. This is accomplished using a vacuum pump, which removes air from the chamber.

Controlled Heating: After creating the vacuum, the oven is heated according to the needs of the process. The temperature is precisely controlled using a thermostat.

Low Pressure Evaporation: With the vacuum established, evaporation occurs at lower temperatures than under atmospheric pressure, making it effective in drying and processing heat-sensitive materials.

Moisture and Gases Removal: Moisture and gases are removed from the greenhouse chamber during the process. This is especially useful in dehydrating materials and removing dissolved gases.

Monitoring and Control: Many modern vacuum ovens are equipped with automated control systems that allow operators to program temperature and pressure cycles, monitor the process, and ensure that desired conditions are maintained.

Return to Atmospheric Pressure: At the end of the drying or processing cycle, the oven is usually vented to allow the vacuum to be broken and atmospheric pressure to be restored to the chamber.

Vacuum ovens are used in a wide variety of applications in laboratories and industry where precise control of humidity and pressure is essential. They play an important role in drying sensitive materials, dehydrating solutions, preserving products and processing materials under controlled conditions.
