Conductivity transmitters

Main brands:

Conductivity transmitters
Conductivity transmitters are used to measure the electrical conductivity of a solution, which is an indication of the amount of ions present in the solution. Conductivity is often related to the concentration of dissolved ions, and therefore these transmitters are essential in laboratories and industry to monitor and control the quality of liquids in various processes, such as in the production of chemical products, in the food industry, in water treatment, among others.

How it works:

The basic operation of a conductivity transmitter involves the following steps:

Conductivity Sensor: The transmitter is equipped with a conductivity sensor, which is usually a conductivity cell. This cell contains electrodes that come into contact with the solution.

Conductivity Measurement: When the conductivity cell comes into contact with the solution, the ions in the solution allow the passage of electrical current between the electrodes. Conductivity is measured based on the solution's ability to conduct this current.

Signal Conversion: The electrical signal generated by the conductivity cell is converted into a signal that can be interpreted and displayed.

Signal Transmission: The converted signal is transmitted to a control or monitoring system. In some cases, the transmitter can be connected to an industrial automation system.

Display/Control: Information about the solution's conductivity can be displayed on a control panel or monitored remotely. Additionally, the control system can use this information to automatically adjust processes if necessary.

Types of Conductivity Transmitters:

2-Electrode Conductivity Transmitters: Use two electrodes to measure conductivity. They are commonly used in simpler applications.

4-Electrode Conductivity Transmitters: More accurate than 2-electrode transmitters, these transmitters minimize the effects of electrochemical polarization, providing more stable measurements.

Inductive 4-Electrode Conductivity Transmitters: Use magnetic induction to measure conductivity, offering greater resistance to electrochemical deposits.

High Temperature Conductivity Transmitters: Designed for high temperature environments where conductivity can be influenced by heat.

The choice of conductivity transmitter type depends on the specific application, the range of conductivity to be measured, environmental conditions and process accuracy requirements. These devices are critical to ensuring quality and process control in a variety of industries.
